Japan-US Cherry Blossom Centennial: Tree Planting at Waimea, Hawaii  

The year 2012 marks the centennial anniversary of the presentation of cherry blossom trees from Japan to the United States. In commemoration of this anniversary, Japanese cherry blossom trees will be planted at Waimea , Hawaii during the Waimea Cherry Blossom Festival as follows.

Date:            Saturday, February 4, 2012

Time:           The 19th  Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival 

                       Opening Ceremony: 9:00 am~

                       Planting Ceremony: 10:30 am ~

Place:          Opening Ceremony: Parker Ranch Shopping Center , Kamuela

                        Planting Ceremony: Church Row Park , Kamuela

During the festival, various Japanese cultural events and activities will be taken place. Taiko Arts Center based in Honolulu will perform its taiko repertoire at the stage of the Parker Ranch Shopping Center from 12:00 noon, supported by the Consulate and the Japan Foundation in LA.

 LIFE IN COLORS in Hawaii 2012

Renowned Kyoto textile artist and designer, Akihiko Izukura, is bringing the art of textile-dying to Hawaii. This technique which has been handed down from the ancient times in Japan, is the culmination of various techniques used for making fiber and clothes. Mr. Izukura will be introducing his art through various exhibits, public lectures and workshops at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
