Hokusai's
Summit: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji Hokusai’s Summit exhibition opened on September 23rd at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. On the opening day, Consul General and Mrs. Kamo attended the reception and the curator’s tour, and the Consul General greeted participants with his speech. The Honolulu Academy of Arts is the only museum in Hawaii which is officially recognized as a registered national historic place of the American Association of Museums. It has been made great efforts to collect and organize East Asian art exhibitions including Japanese art. In fact, every piece of this exhibition belongs to the Academy. The exhibition includes the famous ‘Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji’ by Katsushika Hokusai (1760 – 1849), as well as woodblock prints by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 – 1858). At the gallery, there are fun projects for children such as the educational booth where visitors can learn how to make a woodblock print, and the stamp rally which visitors can create a Red Fuji print reproduction by putting 4 different stamps on a sheet of paper. Hokusai’s
Summit, which is officially endorsed by the Consulate General of Japan in
Honolulu, will be open until January 3, 2010.
For more information about the exhibition, please visit the Honolulu Academy
of Arts website.
