CG Kamo’s Remarks

At the Ikenobo Reception

June 18, 2010

My wife and I are very much pleased to be invited to this auspicious occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Honolulu Chapter of Ikenobo Ikebana Society. We are privileged and honored to have a chance to offer our hearty welcome and greetings to Headmaster Designate Yuki Ikenobo and her entourage.

We are going to have an eventful weekend, including the ikebana demonstration performed by the Headmaster Designate on this coming Sunday. This is a rare opportunity for us to see the Headmaster Designate in action just in front of us. We all look forward to seeing how the inspirations she got from Hawaii will take form in her ikebana works.

Ikenobo has been synonymous with flower arrangements throughout the world. As one of the most successful and influential flower arranging schools, Ikenobo has been playing a lead role in advancing the Japanese art of flower arranging and has won a solid reputation for its authenticity in style and esthetic refinement in execution both at home and abroad.

The Honolulu Hawaii Chapter was founded back in 1980. Since then, it has been a driving force to introduce this most beautiful art form from Japan in a most uncompromising fashion. I congratulate all the members of the Chapter on what you have achieved over the last 30 years and wish for an even more illustrious success in the next 30 years.

Perhaps you know what ‘OHANA’ means in Japanese. It means flowers. Perhaps you know what ‘OHANA’ means in Hawaii. It means family. What a wonderful double meaning we have here!  Flowers bring people together just like family. The Honolulu Chapter helps people become Ohana through Ohana. It is my earnest hope that the family bound by flower arrangements will further grow and prosper in Hawaii, the U.S. and the rest of the world.

結びと致しまして、池坊ホノルル支部の設立30周年を改めてお祝い申し上げ、私のご挨拶と致します。
