Consul General's Speeches

CG Kamo’s Remarks

At the tree planting ceremony at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base

July 9, 2010

Good afternoon. It is my honor and privilege to be invited to this ceremony held at this beautiful Kaneohe base. This is the first time that I get out here and so I am exciting.

First of all, I would like to extend my hearty welcome to General Hibako and his entourage from Japan to Oahu. I am certain that his delegation has been enjoying their program here very much and found it most interesting and rewarding thanks to their hosts.

I would like to express my gratitude to General Stallder for setting up a wonderful ceremony to celebrate our 50th anniversary for the Japan-U.S. security arrangement, to conclude their visit this time. Planting a tree jointly serves a perfect role in symbolizing the ever-growing importance of our partnership. I am honored to be part of this.

We are fortunate that we have such distinguished leaders as General Hibako, Genral Stallder and General Mixon in addressing to our national security concerns and challenges. I admire for their leadership, dedication and commitment.

All important things have been already said by our previous speakers, with respect to the significance of the Japan-U.S. security arrangement. But there is one message that I want to get out to you. This should be brought home by all Japanese that we Japanese are enjoying peace and prosperity, freedom and democracy thanks to the U.S. forces stationed in Japan. We thank you for defending us, protecting us.

Congratulations on the success of the seminar.

Thank you.
