Hui
Makaala Scholarship Fund Luncheon Party and Fashion Show On
October 10th, Hui Makaala Scholarship Fund held a luncheon and a
fashion show at Hawaii Convention Center. Every year, many women rush to
this fashion show and it is now one of the most popular events among
Japanese-American women. This year, the event featured the work of Ms. Ann
Nanba, who is a fresh local designer. Her daring, but also elegant dresses
that use Japanese obi, and the patterns and colors of kimono caught the
women’s eyes. Ms. Nanba designed costumes for “Madame Butterfly” at
the Opera Festival in Savonlinna, Finland this summer. At the fashion show,
with Hawaii Opera Theater’s participation, famous scenes of “Madame
Butterfly” were performed by opera singers, which added extra joy to the
event.
