CU001 The Sokui-no-Rei     (30 min.)
(Ceremonies of the Accession to the Throne of Japan)
This video shows the history of Emperor Akihito, his leisure activities and his love of the environment.  The full accession ceremony is shown with glimpses of the parade and court banquet.

CU003 In Celebration of the Enthronement of His Majesty The Emperor of Japan  (60 min.)
On November 12, 1990, The Sokui Rei Seiden no Gi (Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor) took place in the Imperial Palace.  Representatives from 158 countries, many of them monarchs and Heads of State, attended the ceremony.  Details about the ceremonial regalia and traditional costumes explained in this video.
CU004 The Imperial Wedding - The Crown Prince & Princess of Japan    (30 min.)
The wedding ceremony of Crown Prince Naruhito and the former Masako Owada took place on June 9, 1993.  In this video, viewers are shown the various matrimonial rites which occurred.

The lives of those in the older sections of Tokyo who still regard neighborly relations as important amid the abnormally high land and commodity prices of this densely populated international city, and people living in the countryside, troubled with the problems of young people leaving for the cities and a lack of people to take over their farms.
CU006 The Japanese Family     (35 min.)
This video offers a look at the issues confronting the family unit as seen through the stories which take place in three Japanese homes.  They describe the effects of the changing roles of husbands and wives, the pressures of a competitive society on the rearing of children, etc.
CU007 Customs and Manners     (30 min.)
Japanese society has evolved many customs and manners which help smooth relations between people.  Bowing (a form of non-verbal communication), hanko (personalized stamp), etc.
CU008 The Taste of Japan     (30 min.)
Here is a video that unpretentiously and in a subdued manner offers a view of the features of Japan, as well as the Japanese view of nature and sensitivities, plus the spiritual contact between human beings through the medium of food and beverage.

This tape focuses on the Japanese diet and the preparation of Japanese foods.

The short tape gives the viewer an overview of life in modern Japan.  Amazingly, Japan has almost no natural resources except for the skills of its people.  Learn about the centuries of tradition, the love of nature, the global environment and the economics.

This video focuses on belief as expressed in ceremonial occasions and annual celebrations.  The heart and soul of the Japanese, often incomprehensible to the foreign eye, is sensitively depicted against the beautiful backdrop of the natural environment.
CU012 The Tradition of Performing Arts in Japan     (38 min.)
Noh, Bunraku and the total experience which is Kabuki, is presented here in the variety of traditional Japanese theater, the splendor of Japan’s four seasons and historical visuals.
CU013 Ennosuke III: Kabuki Actor     (35 min.)
Oldest and most well-known Kabuki actor.  He comes from a Kabuki acting family following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father.  The video depicts his versatility and ability to play multiple roles.

The different classical theater venues are discussed.  The video is quite dated but the information is still pertinent.

Japan’s youth and the music they enjoy are focused on.  The video shows the influence of such sixties giants as The Beatles and Elvis and their effect on the rock and roll scene in Japan and on a particular singer named Inouye.

Beauty, it is said, is in the eye of the beholder, and this presentation focuses on three successful Japanese artists and the beauty that they see, which finds expression in the unusual art they create.

Seen are various aspects of current theater in Japan and specifically, a youthful branch of theater that is continually pioneering new and exciting techniques.
CU016 Daichi no Mai - Traditional Japanese Dance (40 min.)     1975
This is more of a lifestyle video which talks about traditions passed down from generation to generation.  This video is a bit dated but the information is still pertinent.
CU017 The Theater Lives     (30 min.)
This video shows the Japanese puppet theater, theater in the outlying rural areas and the lifestyles of the people in these areas.  It also shows the creation of puppets and their customs.

CU019 The Children of Japan     (15 min.)
This video focuses on school life for children, their hobbies, dancing and interests.
CU020 Children’s Stories     (90 min.)
Four delightful children’s tales from Japan are told using animation and real life actors.  The stories are “The Boy and the Crane”, “Kaguyahime”, “The Grateful Crane”, and “Warashibe Choja”.
