The Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu is currently accepting applications for 1 full-time staff position in the Public Information and Cultural Affairs section.
● Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship, Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), or Green Card (Must have legal status to stay and work in the U.S. No support for visas and work permissions will be provided.)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience using social media (Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly twitter))
  • Willingness to participate in culture events held on the weekend and the flexibility to do occasional overtime work.
  • Knowledge in Japanese language and culture (or the ability and willingness to do research). Anyone with a commensurate level of Japanese/English language ability is welcome to apply.
● Period of employment
Early April 2024 to early April 2026 (contract renewable)
● Work Hours
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (includes 1 hour for lunch)
Holiday: Holidays are predetermined by the consulate. (see link below for 2024 holiday)

● Duties
You will be responsible for the following duties of the Public Information and Cultural Affairs section and any duties deemed necessary by the consulate.
  • Managing the JET program and Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Technology (MEXT) scholarships
  • Maintaining and updating the consulate’s website.
  • Distributing information via social media about Japanese culture and related topics.
  • Introducing Japanese culture via youth exchange, culture exchange activities etc.
  • Serving as a point of contact/coordinating with colleges, associations and Japan-affiliated organizations
  • Other logistical arrangement.
● Salary and benefits
Salary is subject to the regulations of the consulate.
Benefits include medical insurance and paid vacation days.
