Consul General and Mrs. Misawa traveled to the island of Kauai on September 26 to attend Matsuri Kauai.
 
After attending the opening ceremonies with Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho, they sampled fresh mochi and visited with other festival patrons. Iwaki City in Fukushima Prefecture and Suo Oshima Town in Yamaguchi Prefecture, both which have sister city agreements with Kauai County, were represented by booths displaying their local products.
