Participation in “Prayer and Mikagura in Hawaii 2015”
October 7th, 2015
On October 7th, Consul General Misawa and his wife attended “Prayer and Mikagura in Hawaii 2015” (The Japan Foundation, 2015 Grant Program for Dispatching Artists and Cultural Specialists). This performance is a collaborative demonstration of kagura Shinto dance and traditional hula by the “Enju no Kai” of the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Japan and the traditional hula group “Edith Kanaka’ole Foundation” from Hilo, Big Island. Mutual exchange between these groups has continued ever since the first performance on the Big Island in July of 2013. In addition to the performances in Honolulu, this year will also feature performances on Kauai and the Big Island.
