“Tsukimi no En” (Moon Viewing) Event
Introduction to the Culture of Japanese Sake
October 26, 2015
On October 26th, the Consulate and the Kokusai Sake Kai co-sponsored “Tsukimi no En” (Moon Viewing), an introduction to the culture of Japanese sake, at the Consul General’s Official Residence.
Mr. Shigetoshi Sudo, Technical Advisor for the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association, was welcomed from Japan to hold a lecture on Japanese sake in order to spread information and expand understanding for the people of Hawaii. The lecture covered the history of Japanese sake, the art of brewing sake, proper tasting methods, and how to best match various sakes types with various cuisines.
The event featured the tasting of a number of award winning sakes from the 2015 U.S. National Sake Appraisal that are from a special collection not presently sold in the United States, and participating guests were able to experience Japanese food and traditional sake culture while dining on light dishes themed for “moon viewing” and “autumn.”
