2015 Reception Celebrating the Emperor’s Birthday
On December 11, 2015, a reception was held at the Consul General’s official residence to celebrate the birthday of the Emperor of Japan.
On the day of the event, approximately 500 guests from a wide variety of local groups and associations were welcomed to the official residence. Honored guests included Governor David Ige and U.S. PACOM Adm. Harry Harris, and the reception proved to be a magnificent event.
This year’s reception featured 11 prefectural Kenjinkai groups (Hokkaido, Yamagata, Miyagi, Fukushima, Yamanashi, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Ehime, Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Okinawa) participating under the collaborative efforts of the “United Japanese Society of Hawaii,” the organization that unifies the activities of the local Kenjinkai. Kenjinkai booths offered tastings of regional specializes, traditional craft exhibits, poster displays, showings of promotional videos, and more. In addition, to support Nikkei Japanese-American commerce an assortment of Nikkei businesses were offered the opportunity to display information on travel, beverages, Japanese sweets, etc. This initiative to support industry activity was very well received by reception attendants.
