Reception for the 22nd Honolulu Festival and the Fifth Memorial of the Great East Japan Earthquake
On the night of March 10, (March 11 in Japan time) the Consulate General of Japan held a reception at the Official Residence to kick off the 22nd Honolulu Festival and to observe the Fifth Memorial of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The event welcomed state, city, and military representatives such as First Lady Dawn Ige, Mayor Kirk Caldwell, and Admiral Scott H. Swift, together with the many volunteers who were involved in disaster relief efforts in Tohoku.
The evening began with a moment of silence in respect and reverence for the victims of the earthquake.
The event featured rice, sake, and Tohoku cuisine made from Fukushima products brought to Hawaii by a training ship from a fisheries high school in Fukushima, together with Ikebana arrangements created using flowers from Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.
