Hawaii Students Participate in the World Tsunami Awareness Day High School Student Summit
On November 29, students from Hilo and Waiakea High Schools, who participated in an international youth summit held in Kuroshio town, Kochi Prefecture as part of the educational activities on World Tsunami Awareness Day, met with Hawaii’s First Lady Mrs. Dawn Amano-Ige to share their experience from the summit. Students from 29 countries participated in the Summit with six students attending from Hilo and Waiakea High Schools representing the United States as youth ambassadors. The students studied and discussed disaster related themes such as disaster prevention and reduction, along with rapid rehabilitation and reconstruction at the global event.
