2016 Reception Celebrating the Emperor’s Birthday
On November 30, a reception was held at the Consul General’s official residence to celebrate the birthday of the Emperor of Japan.
On the day of the event, approximately 450 guests from a wide variety of local groups and associations were welcomed to the official residence. Honored guests included Governor David Ige and U.S. PACOM Adm. Harry Harris, and the reception proved to be a magnificent event.
This year’s reception featured 11 prefectural Kenjinkai groups (Hokkaido, Yamagata, Fukushima, Yamanashi, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Ehime, Fukuoka, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, Okinawa) participating under the collaborative efforts of the “United Japanese Society of Hawaii,” the organization that unifies the activities of the local Kenjinkai. Kenjinkai booths offered tastings of regional specializes, traditional craft exhibits, poster displays, promotional videos and more. In addition, an assortment of Nikkei Japanese-American businesses and other related associations that specialize in drinks, Japanese sweets, travel, and illumination (Kokusai Sake Kai, Ito En, Sanwa Shurui, Kirishima Shuzo, Usagiya, Toshimaya, Toraya, HIS, JTB, Kintetsu International Hawaii Company, Illuminage Group) provided food, refreshment, and information on travel to Japan. This variety of attractions was very well received by reception attendants.
