Hawaii-Hiroshima Sister State 20th Anniversary
On May 7, a reception celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Sister State relationship between Hawaii and Hiroshima was held at the Waialae Country Club. Governor Hidehiko Yuzaki, Prefectural Assembly Chair Shin Uda and others from the Hiroshima government along with Hawaii Governor David Ige, Senate President Ronald Kouchi, Japanese Consul General Yasushi Misawa, representatives of the Honolulu City Council, and Honolulu Hiroshima Kenjin Kai were among the 130 guests that gathered to celebrate the special anniversary. In their speeches, Governor Yuzaki and Governor Ige praised the progress of cooperation in the areas of culture, education and business, and expressed their desire to further strengthen the relations. They signed an MoU between Hiroshima and Hawaii to officially kick-off the “Hiroshima-Hawaii Emerging Young Business Leaders Program” in fall.
