Hawaii-Hokkaido Sister-State Relationship Signing Ceremony and Reception

   On May 8, a signing ceremony and reception was held at the Hawaii State Art Museum to celebrate the newfound Hawaii-Hokkaido sister-state relationship. With over 300 guests in attendance, Hokkaido Governor Takahashi and Hawaii Governor Ige signed a sister-state affiliation agreement declaring to work together to promote the growth of economic, educational, cultural and social opportunities between Hawaii and Hokkaido. At the reception, guests were able to enjoy the local food and dishes of Hokkaido, a performance of traditional Ainu music, and a performance by the Hokkaido Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School Band, which has ties with Kaiser High School.
