Ehime Hawaii Goodwill Youth Baseball Exchange Reception
On November 2, a send-off reception was held at the Consul General’s Official Residence for youth baseball players from Hawaii who will be participating in this year’s Ehime Hawaii Goodwill Youth Baseball Tournament in Ehime Prefecture. This baseball exchange program started to preserve the memory of the Uwajima Fishery High School training ship Ehime Maru, which was involved in an accident off the coast of Oahu in February 2001, and to nurture a positive relationship between Japan and the U.S. (Hawaii). The program helps strengthen the friendship between Japan and Hawaii through international and intercultural learning experiences within the youths and their family members. Around 90 people, including the players, family members, Ehime Kenjinkai representative and organizers, attended the reception. Special guests including Former Hawaii State Representative Ken Ito and Ed Hawkins, the Executive Director or the City Office of Economic Development, also attended the reception and offered their best wishes to the players.
