2018 Reception Celebrating the Emperor’s Birthday

On November 28, the last reception to celebrate current Emperor’s birthday was held at Consul General Ito’s official residence.

 

Honored guests including Admiral. Philip Davidson, Governor David Ige, Mayor Kirk Caldwell and approximately 430 representatives from a variety of local organizations and associations attended. Following the program, 16 individuals and 2 associations received the Consul General’s Commendations for 2018 and Mr. Sanemon Tobaya performed Nagauta as a preview for a Kabuki event scheduled for March, 2019.

 

This year, 11 prefectural Kenjinkai groups' booths (prefectures of Hokkaido, Yamagata, Yamanashi, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Ehime, Saga, Fukuoka, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, and Okinawa) showcased their specialty food, drink, and traditional crafts, while JAL, ANA, JTB, HIS, Kinki Nihon Tourist, Ito En, Kokusai Sake Kai, Sanwa Shurui, Kirishima Shuzo, Usagiya, and Nagato provided tourism information, beverages, and Japanese sweets for the guests.
