CG Aoki's visit with Senator Ronald Kouchi
On October 22, Senator Kouchi warmly welcomed CG Aoki as they met for the first time. Senator Kouchi then shared his experiences of his visit to Japan as well as his fond memories of the visits to Hawaii by then, T.M. Emperor and Empress in 2009, T.I.H. Prince and Princess Akishinomiya in 2018, and the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.
As their conversation continued, Senator Kouchi mentioned that he is a second generation Japanese-American who has roots in Hiroshima, so he loves eating okonomiyaki (a Japanese pancake-like dish) and watching sports. At the end, they discussed the strong partnership between Hawaii and Japan as both struggle in dealing with COVID-19.
