Award Presentation Ceremony for the 2021 Monbukagakusho Japanese Studies Scholarship and Research Student Scholarship
The Consulate General of Japan held an Award Presentation Ceremony for the 2021 Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology) Japanese Studies (Nihongo Nihonbunka Kenshuu Ryuugakusei) Scholarship and Research Student (Kenkyuu Ryuugakusei) Scholarship on Thursday, September 9, 2021. This year, three recipients were selected by the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and one recipient selected by the Consulate General of Japan in New York will be going to Japan this fall to study Japanese language and culture or to conduct research.
Japanese Studies Student (Nihongo Nihon Bunka Kenshu Ryugakusei) Scholarship:
- Ms. Maya Kuga, an undergraduate student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, will study Japanese language and culture at Waseda University in Tokyo from October, 2021 through July, 2022.
- Mr. Ryan Lee, an undergraduate student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, will study Japanese language and culture at Doshisha University in Kyoto from October, 2021 through August, 2022.
Research Student (Kenkyu Ryugakusei) Scholarship:
- Ms. Katherine Ryan, a graduate of Barnard College (BA Art History/Visual Arts), will conduct research in the field of Design at Tama Art University in Tokyo from October, 2021, through March 2023.
- Mr. Benjamin Korman, a graduate of the Pratt Institute (BFA Writing) and scholarship recipient through the Consulate General of Japan in New York, will conduct research in the field of Digital Museum Curation at the Tokyo University of the Arts from October, 2021, through March, 2023.
