Japan-US Joint Memorial Ceremony “Lives Remembered: A Tribute to the Fallen of Pearl Harbor”

On December 9, 2021, the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the U.S. Navy Region Hawaii conducted the Sixth Annual Joint Memorial Ceremony on Ford Island to remember all the lives lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor. This Japan-U.S. co-hosted ceremony first began in 2016. On the ceremony of this year, 80 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, approximately 60 guests, including Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, attended the ceremony. 

Consul General Yutaka Aoki attended the ceremony on behalf of the Government of Japan.  Rear Admiral Timothy J. Kott, Commander of Navy Region Hawaii, attended the ceremony on behalf of the United States. The ceremony began with a moment of silence, followed by both Japanese and American national anthems. Consul General Yutaka Aoki and Rear Admiral Timothy J. Kott, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, delivered remarks as the co-hosts of the event. The keynote speech was given by Ms. Elissa Lines, Executive Director, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum. 

The ceremony concluded with a wreath-laying by Consul General Aoki and Admiral Kott.
