The Japan Science Society Book Donation to University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Hamilton Library

On Thursday, December 16, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu, held a handover ceremony to acknowledge a donation of 23 books from the Read Japan Project. The Read Japan Project, which is supported by The Japan Science Society, donated the books to the Hamilton Library at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Attending the ceremony was Deputy Consul General YAMANAKA Shinichi, from the Consulate General of Japan, and Mr. Clem Guthro, University Librarian, from University of Hawaii.

The Read Japan Project aims to support studies and research on Japan and to enhance understanding between the Japan and the US. Hamilton Library was one of 66 libraries and institutions from around the world selected to receive the collection of books in FY 2021. The 23 books cover a variety of topics on Japan, from its history, literature, and culture to contemporary political and economic affairs.

Launched in 2008, the goal of the Read Japan Project is to use outstanding books to provide readers around the world with an accurate picture of Japan. In particular, the foundation hopes to reach out to young researchers who are interested in Japan, as well as opinion leaders and intellectuals.
