Consul General Aoki’s Official Visit to the County of Maui

On September 13, Consul General Aoki officially visited Maui Island. The overview of his visit is as follows:

1. Courtesy call to Maui County’s Mayor Victorino
Consul General Aoki and Mayor Victorino discussed promoting the Japan-Hawaii relationship. CG Aoki noted that Maui County has sister city relationships with Hachijo-machi in Tokyo, Miyakojima-city in Okinawa, and Fukuyama-city in Hiroshima, and expressed his intention to continue strengthening local partnership. Mayor Victorino stated that he would like to promote exchanges between Japan and Hawaii while respecting diversity. Mrs. Joycelyn Victorino was also present, and the exchange of opinions took place in a friendly atmosphere. 



2. Courtesy call to the Maui County Deputy Chief of Police Charles Hank III
Consul General Aoki expressed his gratitude for the cooperation in ensuring the safety of Japanese citizens on Maui, and confirmed the continuous cooperation with the Maui Police Department.



3. Nisei Veterans Memorial Center visit
Consul General Aoki visited the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center where photo panels of the history of Japanese Americans in Maui and historical artifacts of Nikkei Nisei are on display. Consul General Aoki also exchanged views with Maui's Nikkei community, listening to the wartime experiences of their parents' generation and their history of building bridges between Japan and the United States and between Japan and Hawaii.
