State Minister of Foreign Affairs Takei’s Visit to Hawaii
On January 8th and 11th, 2023, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Shunsuke Takei visited Honolulu during his outbound and inbound trips to the Republic of the Marshall Islands. A summary of the visit is as follows:
1. Wreath laying at the Arizona Memorial
On the 8th, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Takei visited the Arizona Memorial and laid a wreath to pay tribute to the fallen souls, accompanied by Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet. State Minister Takei discussed Japan’s security policy and exchanged views on the security situation in the region with Admiral Paparo.

2. Discussion and breakfast meeting with Hawaii’s Governor Green
On the 11th, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Takei attended a breakfast meeting with Governor Josh Green of Hawaii. State Minister Takei congratulated Governor Green on his inauguration to Governor of Hawaii, explained National Security Strategy of Japan, and stated his intention to further develop friendly relations between Japan and Hawaii. Both sides exchanged views on Japan-Hawaii cooperation in tourism and clean energy.
