Ehime Maru Memorial Ceremony
The annual memorial service for the Ehime Maru was held by Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) on February 9. This year, about 60 people, including the guests from Japan, as well as members of the local community, attended the ceremony.
In February 2001, four high school students, two teachers, and three crew members perished after a fishery high school training vessel, the Ehime Maru, sank in a tragic accident.
Consul General Aoki, Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke and Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi laid wreaths at the Ehime Maru Memorial and offered silent prayers during a ceremony.
