On August 16, 2023 (Japan Time), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2023. Ms. Christine Kubota is among this year’s foreign recipients.
Ms. Kubota served in leadership roles at various Japan-related organizations in Honolulu, including the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, United Japanese Society of Hawaii and the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. In 2018, Ms. Kubota served as the co-chair of the 150th Anniversary of the Gannenmono Celebration Committee, and in October 2019, she was selected to attend the Ceremony of the Enthronement to the Throne of His Majesty the Emperor along with then Governor David Ige representing the Japanese American Community in Hawaii. As a truly respected leader in the Japanese American community, Ms. Kubota has continuously dedicated her time to promote friendship and goodwill between Japan and Hawaii as well as Japan and the United States.
Every year, the Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
