Consulate Activities

On October 6, representatives from both sides of the Ehime-Hawaii Goodwill Youth Baseball Delegation's executive committee visited the Consulate. They signed a memorandum of understanding to resume the youth baseball exchange between Ehime and Hawaii, which had been suspended due to COVID-19. The Ehime-Hawaii Goodwill Youth Baseball exchange began with a baseball class that hosted Mr. Bobby Valentine, the then manager of the New York Mets, in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, in 2000 and the Ehime Maru tragedy in 2001. From 2002 to 2019, the exchange has alternated yearly between Ehime and Hawaii. Consul General Kodama said he was very impressed that the exchange goes beyond baseball and even includes homestays. Consul General Kodama expressed his hope that the exchange would continue.
