Consulate Activities

On October 16, Mr. FUJIMOTO Kiyotaka, Mayor of Suo-Oshima Town of Yamaguchi Prefecture visited the Consulate-General of Japan. In 1885, many residents from the town immigrated to Hawaii when the system of Kanyaku-Imin, or contract laborer immigrants, first began. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the town's sisterhood with Kauai County. Consul General KODAMA shared that he was impressed by the longstanding friendly relationship between Suo-Oshima Town and Hawaii, and expressed his hope for further expansion of exchanges.
