On October 19, Consul General Kodama made a courtesy call to Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen at his office.
First, Consul General Kodama expressed his deepest sympathies to the people affected by the wildfires in August and his heartfelt condolences to the victims. He also paid tribute to the Mayor’s efforts to address the difficulties and challenges that come with recovery and reconstruction.
Mayor Bissen expressed his gratitude for all the support provided by various entities in Japan including the Government of Japan, municipalities and private sectors.
Then, this was followed by exchange of opinions about recovery and reconstruction. During the exchange, Consul General Kodama drew upon the fact that Japan has frequently experienced natural disasters and is knowledgeable about reconstruction efforts.
