2023 Foreign Minister’s Commendation Conferment Ceremony for Ms. Christine Aiko Kubota
On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Consul General’s Official Residence, Ms. Christine Aiko Kubota, was conferred the 2023 Foreign Minister’s Commendation.
Ms. Christine Aiko Kubota served in leadership roles at various Japan-related organizations in Honolulu, including the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, the United Japanese Society of Hawaii and the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. In 2018, Ms. Kubota served as the Co-chair of the 150th Anniversary of the Gannenmono Celebration Committee, and in October 2019, she was selected to attend the Ceremony of the Accession to the Throne for His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito along with then Governor David Ige representing the Japanese American Community in Hawaii. As a truly respected leader in the Japanese American community, Ms. Kubota has continuously dedicated her time to promote friendship and goodwill between Japan and Hawaii as well as Japan and the United States.
At the ceremony, Consul General Kodama delivered a congratulatory message and expressed his gratitude for Ms. Kubota’s long-standing contribution to promote friendship between Japan and Hawaii, followed by the conferment ceremony. Ms. Kubota also delivered a speech, then, Ms. Carole Hayashino, the past president of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of the guests. Ms. Kubota stated that the activities of various Japanese American organizations were supporting the preservation of Japanese culture in Hawaii, and the strong bond of the Japanese American community in Hawaii was contributing to enhancing the friendship between the U.S. and Japan.
