28th Annual Honolulu Festival

The 28th Annual Honolulu Festival was held by the Honolulu Festival Foundation from March 8 to 10 and the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu joined the Festival.
 
On March 9 and 10 at the Hawaii Convention Center, Ms. Maka’ala Perry (Miss Visit Japan Tourism Ambassador appointed by the Japan Tourism Agency) held a talk show promoting tourism to Japan, while the Consulate’s booth introduced Japanese culture, and promoted tourism to Japan, the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology)Scholarships and the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program.

In addition, we co-hosted the Japan Film Festival with the Honolulu Festival Foundation and Japan Foundation. The film festival was received favorably by the attendees.

During the event, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Los Angeles Office hosted the Japan Food Festival. The event featured Japanese seafood products in a variety of programs including business meetings and sampling booths. It was a great success.

Prior to the event on March 7, the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the Honolulu Festival Foundation co-hosted a reception at the Official Residence to kick off the 28th Annual Honolulu Festival. The event was attended by 100 guests including Mayor SATO Hikaru of Chigasaki City, Mr. James Tokioka (Director of Department of Business, Economy, Development, and Tourism (DBEDT) Hawai’i State), Mr. Andy Sugg (Chief of Staff, Honolulu City), and Mr. KUBO Tetsuya (President of the Honolulu Festival Foundation). Consul General Kodama paid tribute to the Japanese companies, businesses, organizations and individuals who made this Festival possible.

On March 8, Consul General Kodama and Deputy Consul General Izawa attended the Governor’s Luncheon hosted by Governor Green at Washington Place and interacted with the people involved with the festival.
