The 18th World Children's Haiku Contest award ceremony

On May 16, 2024, an award ceremony was held at the Consul General’s Official Residence for the winners of the Hawaii regional division of the 18th World Children’s Haiku Contest organized by the JAL foundation.
Consul General Kodama expressed his congratulations to the three students who were awarded grand prizes and the seven other students who were chosen to receive prizes from the 126 total entrants in Hawaii. At the ceremony the room was overflowing with smiles as the children performed their wonderful poems expressing their tender feelings.
For the children of Hawaii who took part in the contest, in addition to deepening their understanding of the forms of expression characteristic to Japanese culture and the Japanese language through haiku, they were able to acquire a new perspective on the creative process.
