Visit by Fukuoka Fisheries High School

On October 21st, a delegation of five from Fukuoka Fisheries High School visited the Consulate. Two student representatives greeted the Consulate staff, and Deputy Consul General Haruta gave an overview of the deep connections between the State of Hawai'i and Fukuoka Prefecture. He also expressed his hope for further promotion of exchanges among the younger generation
The school's training vessel, Kaiyu Maru, departed from Japan on September 19, and sailed across the Pacific while conducting tuna fishing training. The vessel arrived at Honolulu Harbor on the 21st.
The 52 students onboard disembarked in Honolulu, where they visited the Ehime Maru Memorial and participated in an exchange with James Campbell High School. The vessel is scheduled to depart Honolulu Harbor on the 25th and will return to Fukuoka after a two-week voyage.
We hope that the annual stopover of this training vessel in Honolulu will continue to serve as a valuable opportunity for international exchange between students from Japan and Hawai'i.
