Visit from Shirahama Town junior high school students

On October 31, a group of 15 junior high school students representing Honolulu’s friendship-city Shirahama Town, in Wakayama prefecture, led by Town Mayor Oe, visited our Consulate. Following a greeting from Mayor Oe, a junior high school student spoke about their aspirations for this visit to Hawaii. Consul-General Kodama then talked about the deep ties between Japan and Hawaii.
Shirahama town entered a friendship city relationship with the City and County of Honolulu in 2004, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of that partnership. It is hoped that the junior high school students will improve their English communication skills as well as develop their international perspectives through their homestay experience and visit to Pearl Harbor.
