“The World of the Tale of Genji: Demonstration of Jyuni Hitoe: Kimono worn by Noble Women and Ladies-in-Waiting at the Imperial Court of Medieval Japan”

On November 22, 2024, a special cultural event, “The World of the Tale of Genji: Demonstration of Jyuni Hitoe: Kimono worn by Noble Women and Ladies-in-Waiting at the Imperial Court of Medieval Japan”, was held at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Honolulu.
 
The event was cosponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu, Wabunka Denshō Kyokai and the Honolulu Foundation, with a diverse group of guests in attendance, including politicians, government officials, museum representatives, and the wives of U.S. military commanders.
 
Participants were given an in-depth introduction to the dressing and wearing of these historical garments and their cultural significance. Many attendees expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to experience this precious tradition firsthand and praised the event as a meaningful and educational experience.
