10th Anniversary Reception Showcasing Tsuyahime Rice and Other Yamagata Specialties

On May 22, 2025, the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the Yamagata Prefectural Government co-hosted a promotional event showcasing specialty foods from Yamagata Prefecture including “Tsuyahime” rice and Japanese sake (rice wine) at the Consul General’s Official Residence. Attendees included the Yamagata Delegation, led by Governor Yoshimura Mieko, as well as members of the Hawaii State Legislature, government officials, local restaurant operators, food distributors, and other invited guests.
Participants enjoyed a performance by Yamagata Prefecture’s Sakata Maiko (traditional Japanese performers), tastings and presentations of prefectural products, and an opportunity to explore the region’s unique and appealing specialties while also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the export of “Tsuyahime” rice to Hawaii.
