On Thursday, August 21, 2025, a group of junior high school students from Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, visited the Consulate. Since establishing a sister-city relationship with the City of Honolulu in 2004, Shirahama has actively promoted educational exchanges, including school partnerships. The town also maintains a sister-school relationship with Princess Ruth Keʻelikōlani Middle School, a Hawaii State public school.

During the visit, Mr. Nishida, Superintendent of the Shirahama Town Board of Education, delivered opening remarks, followed by Deputy Consul General Haruta, who spoke about the historical and cultural ties between Japan and Hawaii. A student representative then shared their aspirations for the visit to Hawaii..

Through this program, the students are expected to enhance their English communication skills and develop a broader international perspective by participating in homestays and school visits.
