2026 Consul General’s Commendation on Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans

On April 24, Consul General of Japan in Honolulu, Hideaki CHOTOKU, presented the Consul General’s Commendation to Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans in Kahului, Maui.
 
Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans has promoted mutual aid among Nisei veteran families on Maui, preserved and passed down documents and materials related to the history, achievements and stories of Nisei veterans to future generations, and worked to uplift Japanese American youth on Maui. Through its activities, Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans has also made significant contributions to improving the social status of Japanese Americans in the state of Hawai‘i and deepening mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.
 
Consul General CHOTOKU presented the commendation certificate to Mr. Leonard Oka, the founder of Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans, and expressed his deep gratitude for the organization's achievements to date. In response, Mr. Oka reflected on the compassion and achievements of the Nisei veterans and the organization's past efforts, and expressed his hope that the torch of their activity would be passed on to future generations.
