2026 Consul General’s Commendation on Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii

On June 26, Hideaki CHOTOKU, Consul General of Japan in Honolulu, presented the Consul General’s Commendation to Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii.

For more than 70 years, Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii has been dedicated to promoting Japanese traditional culture through the practice of the tea ceremony. Through public tea gatherings, cultural events, and educational activities, Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii has introduced the appeal of Japanese culture to the local community in Hawaiʻi, making significant contributions to fostering mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the United States. Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii has also actively cooperated with cultural programs and various events organized by the Consulate General, serving for many years as an important bearer of Japanese cultural outreach. The Commendation Ceremony was held in the presence of many members and related guests.

During the award presentation, Consul General Chotoku offered his congratulations and expressed his deep respect for Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii’s long-standing efforts. He noted that Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii, through its continued promotion of Japanese traditional culture via the tea ceremony and its efforts to foster exchanges with the local community, has made significant contributions to friendship and goodwill between Japan and Hawaiʻi, as well as between Japan and the United States.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Rika Hirata, Director of Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii, expressed her great appreciation at receiving such a prestigious commendation. She affirmed the organization’s continued commitment to further promoting Japanese culture and contributing to the local community for the next decades to come.
