Visit by Elementary and Middle School Students from Sakai Town

On August 24, 2026, a delegation from Sakai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, a sister city of Honolulu, visited the Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu. The delegation included Mayor Masahiro Hashimoto, Assembly Chair Isao Kuramochi, and 36 elementary and junior high school students. Deputy Consul General Hiroki Haruta gave a presentation on Hawaii’s history, culture, and local attractions, providing the students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Hawaii.
During their visit, the students from Sakai Town visited elementary and junior high schools in Honolulu and experienced cross-cultural exchange through homestays with local students’ families. The visit further strengthened educational exchanges between the two communities and provided the students, who will shape the future, with a valuable opportunity to broaden their international perspectives.
