Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2026
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced that Mr. Sal Hisao Miwa, Former Chairman, Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH), will receive the 2026 Foreign Minister’s Commendation.
Mr. Miwa has dedicated himself to fostering exchange between Japan and the United States, serving as both a board member and chairman of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH). In his capacity as a representative of the local Japanese-American community, he welcomed visiting Japanese government dignitaries and played a pivotal role in organizing events by coordinating between Japanese associations and Japanese-American groups. Furthermore, he was involved in the maintenance of the Ehime Maru Memorial and the organization of memorial ceremonies, thereby making significant contributions to strengthening mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and the United States, specifically between Japan and Hawaii.
Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote awareness and support among the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
