Message by Consul-General Aoki on the Passing of Former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo

1. On July 8, 2022 (Japan Standard Time) former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo passed away.
2. Former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo put forward a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in 2016 and made tremendous contributions to building international cooperation towards peace and prosperity in the region.
3. In December 2016, former Prime Minister ABE visited the island of Oahu in the State of Hawaii and, together with former President Obama, gave statements at Pearl Harbor. Former Prime Minister ABE pledged his unwavering vow to never repeat the horrors of war and demonstrated the importance of the power of reconciliation that has made possible the strong Japan-U.S. relationship.
4. As Consul-General of Japan in Honolulu, I would like to express my deepest condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo, who had close ties to Hawaii.
