2022/9/12
The Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu is pleased to announce the release of our new video, Japan Food Journey, Episode 4:Deco Sushi Experience.

This video shows the overview of the “Deco Sushi Roll Experience Event”, which was presented by the Consulate’s Resident Chef Yuta Makino for the local community. Co-hosted by the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu, Fukuoka Prefecture and Dean and Deluca Hawaii, the purpose of this event was to promote a deeper understanding of Japanese food to the younger Nikkei generation.

During the event, representatives from Fukuoka introduced their prefecture and its specialty products, Ariake nori (seaweed) and Yame tea, which participants used and tasted at the event. Chef Makino, introduced the history of sushi rolls and demonstrated how to make a "Plumeria Sushi Roll", which he created for this event. The idea behind this sushi creation was to utilize ingredients such as poke from Hawaii and wrapping the sushi with the Ariake nori from Fukuoka, symbolizing the friendship between Fukuoka and Hawaii.

Join us on this culinary journey as participants learn and rediscover Japanese culture through this unique sushi making experience!
