2020 Reception Celebrating the Emperor's Birthday
On February 20, the first Emperor's Birthday Reception of Reiwa was held at the Consul General’s official residence. On the day of the event, approximately 370 guests from a wide variety of local groups and associations were welcomed. Honored guests included Governor David Ige and U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General Paul LaCamera.
This year’s reception featured 11 prefectural Kenjinkai groups (Hokkaido, Yamagata, Fukushima, Yamanashi, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Ehime, Fukuoka, Saga, Miyazaki, Okinawa) participating under the collaborative efforts of the “United Japanese Society of Hawaii.” The Kenjinkai booths offered tastings of regional specialties, traditional craft exhibits, and poster displays. In addition, an assortment of Japanese businesses and other related associations (Kokusai Sake Kai, Ito En, Sanwa Shurui, Kirishima Shuzo, Usagiya, Toshimaya, Toraya, ANA, JAL, HIS, JTB, Kintetsu International Hawaii Company) provided food, refreshments and information on travel to Japan. This variety of attractions was very well received by reception attendants.
