On August 5, Consul General KODAMA Yoshinori participated in the 80th Anniversary Ceremony of the Hiroshima Bombing held at the Hiroshima-Honolulu Friendship Torii in Moiliili Triangle Park.
The ceremony brought together Governor Josh Green, officials from the City and County of Honolulu, a Hiroshima survivor in Hawaii, and representatives of local organizations to honor the victims of the atomic bombing and to renew their commitment to a peaceful world free of nuclear weapons.
In his remarks, Consul General Kodama expressed his deep condolences to the victims and his respect to all those who have dedicated themselves to strengthening the Japan-U.S. relationship, and emphasized the importance of Japan-U.S. cooperation for peace and stability of the region, while highlighting the longstanding friendship between Hiroshima and Honolulu.
A bell was rung to mark the exact time of the bombing, followed by a moment of silent prayer by all attendees. The ceremony served as a solemn and powerful occasion to remember the past and carry hope forward into the future.
